Along with proteins and fats, carbohydrates are one of three main nutrients (macronutrients or “macros”) found in foods and drinks.

The DoctorXDietitian duo will round out their macronutrient conversation with the oh-so-confusing and sometimes scary carbs. However, it is important to learn how to embrace carbs in the diet, regardless of where you are in your bariatric and weight loss journey.

Carbohydrates, aka carbs, are the body's preferred source of fuel. Your body breaks down carbohydrates into glucose. Glucose, or blood sugar, is the main source of energy for your cells, tissues, and organs. Not having enough carbs in your diet can make you feel sluggish, experience digestive issues and even have bad breath. Fun times! ;)
